I don’t understand the concept of hampers in the bathroom, particularly those inclosed in cabinetry. That’s just a breeding ground for mould and mildew from damp towels. Even dirty clothes will be exposed to steam from showers and baths. Yuck!

My home was built in the '70s and I have a laundry chute in the hallway just outside the bathroom door. It's nice to be able to toss the soiled clothing and damp towels right down the chute to the laundry area in the basement. Ideally, I'd rather have a 1st floor laundry but it is what it is. I agree about hampers in the bathroom. Ew. No way.

If you keep your hampers in the closet, you're essentially doing the same thing. Towels should be kept out to dry thoroughly. If you're a large family, train the household to carry the soiled items to the laundry room.

In one of my newly remodeled home/3 bathrooms I did a 'story' of my coastal location with the shower tile a stormy pattern for the jetty, a reminnant marble counter describing a calm beach, spigots in the wall, a boat shaped sink, drawings of a sailboat wallpaper, and a huge porthole mirror. People rave. All done in blues, navy, creams. Wish I could send photo.

It’s not always up to code to install an electrical outlet in a drawer or cabinet. It’s should be stressed to check with your county or city before installing one. Reasoning is possible fire hazard if drawer were to be closed with the appliance still on.

Very much agree about enclosed hampers. I keep 4 hampers in my closet floor just outside my bathroom. One for bras, one for socks(I do a lot of outside work),one for clothes, one(the big one, for sheets/towels. I change Sheets/ towels one day a week and the towels will be yesterdays so they are dry. They do go in the wash on wash day . In my ugly, but practical, laundry i can further sort, jeans (always dirty), light clothes, sweaters, and such, in a couple of hampers., and wash when I have enough for a reasonable sized load. I also Hang most everything, toss in Dryer to get wrinkles out for just a few minutes. Iron (!!!) some (well more than I admit). My clothes last Forever, particularly, bras. I also highly recommend the "hampers" that I got from The Container store: They are tallish, narrow with 2 handles, shaped like a big paper grocery bag, that you can hold with one hand. You can use them there. Perfect for tossing clothes and carrying down to the basement.

PS My vacation place has the toe place drawer: Perfect for storing lots of Toilet Paper for the next epidemic..

Worked for me.

It never would have occurred to me to put a hamper in the bathroom vanity but I moved in November to a house that already had them. AND I LOVE IT! Get undressed for a shower and clothes go right in the hamper. No taking up precious space in my closet. Strongly recommend.

It has small holes in the bottom for some venting. It's a good sized primary bath and with a sealed steam shower so I assume that helps. I don't put anything wet in there; the same as if it were in my closet.

I’ve had a hamper in my bathroom for decades. I would never put damp clothes in it. I live in a humid climate and my clothes never mold. Maybe if my bathroom had no fan or window or if I didn’t do the laundry for two weeks, then, maybe mold. Its just so convenient to undress in the bathroom and have a proper place to toss the clothes. Damp towels go straight into a washing machine, never a hamper.

I don’t agree on the hamper in the bathroom, just bring the clothes to the laundry room it makes it a lot easier for us who do the wash then to go around having to collect everything !!! This is another reason why I don’t put waste baskets in every bedroom , just bathrooms and office if you have one .I don’t want to go into every room emptying baskets for garbage day.

Not everyone has the luxury of a laundry room, especially in older homes, condos, or apartments. When I was growing up you had a hamper and guess where, in the bathroom!

By far, our favorites are the in-drawer outlets and full-size bottom drawer.
